- Students for a Nuclear Weapon Free World 2009
From now through the end of July 2009, the World Federation
of United Nations Associations is accepting submissions
for this year’s Students
for a Nuclear Weapons Free World Contest.
- The IAEA released its latest report
on Iran
Director General ElBaradei reported that the Agency has
been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared
nuclear material in Iran.
- The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute
(SIPRI) released its annual report, which includes an
overview of global military spending for 2008. Once again,
military spending has increased: in 2008, it is estimated
to have totalled $1464 billion, a 4 percent increase
over 2007. For more information, please see the SIPRI

- The Conference on Disarmament adopted its first programme
of work in ten years on 29 May!
For the first time since 1999, the CD adopted a programme
of work to begin substantive work on its four issues, including
negotiations of a treaty banning the production of fissile
materials for weapon purposes. For details, see RCW’s
