Nuclear disarmament

Working paper submitted by Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine

The following proposals for inclusion in the report of Main Committee I and the final document of the 2000 Review Conference of the States Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons are submitted by Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

"The States Parties to the Treaty welcome the important contribution made by Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to the implementation of article VI of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons through their significant measures in nuclear disarmament, in particular the voluntary decision to withdraw all tactical and strategic nuclear weapons from their territories, and take note with satisfaction of the current efforts of those States to strengthen the Treaty through enhancing regional and global security.

"The States Parties to the Treaty welcome the signing in September 1997 by Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the United States of America of significant agreements relating to the Treaty on the Limitation of Anti-Ballistic Missile Systems, including a Memorandum of Understanding, which, upon entry into force, will contribute to further strengthening the viability of the Treaty on the Limitation of Anti-Ballistic Missile Systems."
