Outline for discussion of item 2 of the agenda of the CD: February 5-9 and March 5-9, 2007 (Phase I)

The objective of these sessions would be to identify and discuss issues and sub-issues within item 2, with a focus on the issue of the prohibition of production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices. The following selection of sub-issues and timetable are based on the collection of official documents on FMCT contained in document CD/INF.49 of 9 May 2006 and subsequent official documents presented by delegations during the 2006 session.

Thursday, February 8 (morning):

1) Identification of issues falling under item 2 of the Agenda.

2) General discussion on a treaty for the prohibition of the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.

3) Consideration of sub-issues to be dealt within a treaty on the cessation of production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices:
