Thank you Madame President. It is a pleasure for the delegation of Algeria today to take the floor on behalf of the Arab group. Madame, the Arab group attaches great attention to the Conference on Disarmament and its capacity as the single multilateral negotiation forum in the field of disarmament. We consider the Conference on Disarmament the appropriate forum to reach negotiated solutions and acceptable solutions to everybody in order for us to be able to face the difficult challenges that characterise the current international context. In particular, those resulting from the continued existence of massive and extensive arsenals of nuclear weapons, and as a result of the threat of nuclear proliferations in all of its forms. For this reason, the Arab group voices its deep concern in view of the continued impulse experienced by the Conference on Disarmament. We considered in the draft that has been submitted in the document L1. We have considered this a very positive foundation that could allow the Conference to discharge its responsibilities. We greatly value the very great efforts made by the Presidents of the Conference since the beginning of the current session.

Madame President, the Arab group will not spare any effort in order to close the rift to overcome the obstacles and the difficulties and to bring closer the viewpoints for us to be able to establish a comprehensive, and balanced, and acceptable work program for everyone. The Arab group looks forward to the time when we would overcome the current circumstances . At the same time, we call upon the six Presidents to continue with their efforts that we greatly value. And it is with our hope that the efforts by the President would continue in a transparent context that allows all members to consult with other members on document L1 in a multilateral fashion and that would constitute the appropriate and the successful method for us to reach the common denominator that we seek in order to reach those results.
