Ukraine
21 June 2006
Thank you Madame Chair. Please allow me to join the previous speakers in extending you our gratitude in extending to address the concerns of the delegations through the Supplementary Presidential Statement and an additional Draft Decision linking it to L.1.
The Ukrainian delegation has already carefully reflected on its position concerning the draft decision presented on behalf of the six Presidents contained in document CD/2007/L.1. It may not be perfect but it represents the best ability to return to work in the CD. We proceed from understanding that the complimentary Presidential Statement as well as other documents from the 14th of June were done in a balanced manner. These documents contain clarification and alleviate concerns expressed by delegations on the Presidential Draft Decision. We consider your appeal to the member states of the Conference to decide by 21st June for the adoption of the Presidential Draft Decision L.1 to be an important step to explore whatever possibilities there might be to find a way out of the delicate situation in which the Conference found itself to be an important step to find a way out for the remaining part of this session.
Madame Chair, the Ukrainian delegation fully shares the point of view that was shared in many meetings before that there was a general serious readiness to begin work along the lines proposed in L.1 and the clarifying statement would be very helpful. We strongly believe that the approach that you have suggested should improve the situation. The establishment of a program of work on the basis of three documents will provide all necessary conditions to start substantive work for the Conference.
