France, Ambassador Eric Danon
03 September 2009
Thank you very much.
Very briefly President; I wish to thank Ambassador Jose Luis Cancela for coming to Geneva and for his kind words to us and to say that we too would like to maintain the positive atmosphere that was characteristic of a large part of this year. Apart from that we very hope that the problems encountered by some of us here, which have led to the non adoption of measures to implement CD/1864, that those difficulties will not be encountered in New York, and that we will be able to make progress in the first Committee on all subjects, including resolutions concerning the work done in Geneva based fora.
I don't know whether you intend to say anything about the report in a moment, President, in which case I might have something to say after that. Just to warn you, and to not take up time allotted to it again, we want to say that we appreciate the report and the way its drafted. Now it seems quite satisfactory to us. Finally, before leaving, I would say it doesn’t' happen all that often.
Rather, usually when some of our Ambassador colleagues leave, a lot of praise is showered on them, but it is not so frequent for number twos, with deputies, but I would exceptionally like to say how sad I am to see Fiona from the British Delegation leaving and say how much we appreciate the work that has been done by her and maybe on behalf of everyone here, to wish her every good success in her future functions.
Thank you.
