Thank you very much, President.

I too wanted to echo those Delegations that have taken the floor before me; to thank and warmly congratulate Susi Snyder, who heads the NGO Disarmament Committee. We recognize what an effort Non Governmental Organisations, presented by Susi Snyder, make. They really breathe new life into our discussions, even our informal discussions.

We also agree with other Delegations. We hope that we will be able to have other dialogues with Civil Society in an ongoing fashion within this Conference.

President, I just wanted to point out that at this moment Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, the UN Secretary-General, is in Mexico City, precisely to inaugurate the Civil Society Conference. A NGO Conference which was organised together by the Government of Mexico and the public information section of the United Nations. It is a very important event both for Mexico and the international community. This kind of event speaks volumes about the United Nations’ opinion about civil society’s contribution to the achievement of peace and security world wide.

We hope that as far as disarmament is concerned and within this Conference, bringing together civil society and the United Nations would be taken further so that all Member States that are here represented can be involved.
