WILPF makes joint submission to UN Human Rights Committee about the United Kingdom's arms transfers to Israel
12 February 2024
Ahead of the review of the United Kingdom by the 140th Session of the UN Human Rights Committee in March 2024, the Women’s International League (WILPF), Al-Haq, and the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR), with the contribution of Saferworld to the analysis on Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) obligations and arms export controls under UK domestic law, wrote a submission highlighting concerns about the UK's arms transfers to Israel, especially in the context of the ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Our organisations remind the UK of its obligations under international human rights law, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), international humanitarian law (IHL), international criminal law, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Genocide Convention), the ATT, and other relevant international law to immediately stop arms transfers and other forms of military assistance to Israel, and to revoke all licences for arms destined to Israel from its jurisdiction.
