The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Preparatory Committee faces new challenges as it meets for the next two weeks
24 April 2025
From 28 April to 9 May 2025, states parties to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) will gather in New York. This will be the third preparatory meeting for the treaty’s eleventh review conference, to be held next year. But with new talk about spreading nuclear weapons in Europe and Asia and more investments in “modernising” nuclear arsenals, the treaty is at risk. The only way to save the treaty and the planet is nuclear abolition.
Reaching Critical Will (RCW) will be active at the NPT PrepCom as usual! We've already published a Briefing Book, which provides an overview of critical issues to be discussed at the PrepCom and recommendations for action.
During the conference, RCW will provide analysis and advocacy through our NPT News in Review. You can subscribe to follow the action! We've already published a preview edition. If you would like to submit art, articles, or advertisements to future editions, please contact Emma Bjertén.
We are also posting all documents, working papers, statements and other materials on our website. RCW is the civil society coordinator for the NPT, which means we are helping coordinate NGO statements and side events, and to organise meetings between government and activist delegations.
If you are not able to go to New York or attend the meetings, you can still follow the conference through the UN Web TV. Make sure to tune in on 30 April, at 3 pm EST for NGO statements!
If you rely on our reporting, information, or advocacy, please consider making a donation to sustain our work.
Below is some key logistical information for civil society participants:
UN grounds passes
If your registrations have been approved in Indico, you have received a confirmation email. Beginning on 25 April 2025, grounds passes valid for the duration of the Preparatory Committee session will be available for collection from the Pass and Identification Unit, at 320 East 45th Street. Participants are advised to go to the Pass and Identification Unit well in advance to allow enough time for security checks.
The Pass and Identification Unit, located at 320 East 45th Street (between 1st and 2nd Ave), will be open from 3 - 6 pm on Sunday 27 April, from 7 am - 2 pm on Monday 28 April, and from 9 am - 2 pm each weekday thereafter. Representatives will need to have their passport and a printed copy of the confirmation email with them to collect a grounds pass.
For more information on civil society participation please see the information note. If you cannot find your confirmation email of your registration or are unsure if you received one, please contact diane.barnes[at]un.org.
