The UN General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security begins its 80th session

On 8 October 2025, the UN General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security began its 80th session, which will continue until 7 November 2025. The Committee will hold discussions on a variety of topics related to weapons, disarmament, and global security, and will take action on resolutions towards the end of its session.

Ahead of the conference, RCW published the First Committee Briefing Book, which provides a quick overview of the state of play on some of the most pressing issues that will be addressed at this year’s First Committee session. The Briefing Book also outlines recommendations for governments from some of the key civil society groups working on these topics.
