WILPF Submission to UN Secretary-General's Report on Military Expenditure and the Sustainable Development Goals
WILPF made a submission to the UN Secretary-General’s report on the impact of military spending on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the Pact for the Future, the UN General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to “provide analysis on the impact of the global increase in military expenditure on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the end of the seventy-ninth session.” With the aim of encouraging engagement and reflection on this subject by member states, as well as relevant stakeholders such as international and regional organizations, academia, think tanks, youth and civil society, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs put out a call for papers on this subject.
Reaching Critical Will led the drafting of WILPF's submission to the UN Secretary-General's report, which offers analysis and recommendations on:
- The impact of military expenditure on the Sustainable Development Goals
- The need for a feminist critique of military expenditure
- The need for the UN to effectively address military expenditure
- The need to rethink “development” and economic growth
