2025 Informal Consultations on Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems: Information for civil society participation

According to the information note provided by the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, the open informal consultations shall be open to the full participation of civil society, including the scientific community and industry.

Accreditation and registration

All requests for accreditation and/or registration must be received by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs by 30 April 2025 by 18:00 EST. Such requests should be submitted through the form.

Through the form, civil society organizations must submit a written accreditation request, on official organization letterhead. The letter should include the names of all individuals to be accredited.

In addition, organizations without ECOSOC Consultative Status must include (1) information on the organization's purpose; (2) information on the organization's programmes; and (3) an overview of past interactions, if any, between the organization and the United Nations, particularly in relation to the scope of the meeting.

Representatives of the scientific community and industry should provide the same information on the official letterhead of their research institutes or companies.

Organizations will be informed by email of the outcome of their requests. Organizations with ECOSOC Consultative Status will be informed by email of the outcome of their accreditation requests upon confirmation of that status. For questions relating to accreditation, please contact Ms. Diane Barnes (diane.barnes[at]un.org).

Organizations whose accreditation has been provisionally approved should ask their representatives to register as participants by completing the above-mentioned form on or before 30 April 2025. Online registrations must include the accreditation request letter, including the name of the participant. If the requested documents are not attached, the system will reject the application.

Confirmed registrants who require a temporary pass should present a valid government-issued photo identification (e.g. passport) and a printed copy of their approval letter to UNODA staff who will be available at a designated place and time to be communicated in due course. For alternate arrangements to pick up temporary passes, and for other matters related to registration and issuance of grounds passes, kindly contact Ms. Diane Barnes (diane.barnes[at]un.org) and Mr. Rene Holbach ([email protected]) at least one business day before arrival.
